Kendall + Kitzel!

As I start adding photos from the past year, I am beginning with the most recent shoot because I can't wait to get them out there! I can't even tell you how excited I was when Kendall emailed back in September to see if I would shoot his engagement pictures. Kendall is an amazing artist, photographer, writer, and friend. Check him out Kendall Ruth, and his blog, and read about him here. I am so honored to be asked to capture this rich moment in his life. I met Kendall way back in 99 at Ute Trail Ranch, or "The Rock." I was a guide and he was my trainer both summers I worked there. Then we caught back up about ten years later and now he's getting married. And Kit is one awesome chick, I liked her from the start! Check out her business, Fleurish Design LLC. They were in Austin because she did the flowers for this wedding. Thomas and I met up with them last Sunday evening and let me tell you, I LOVE this couple. They are so much fun together. It fills me with so much joy to see them together!

I definitely have some blog time to catch up on. Man, where have the last two years gone? Oh yeah, I had a baby. And that sweet baby has filled my life with so much joy. Finding a balance between bragging about my work here or absorbing every sweet moment with my child has been a seesaw ride for sure. Most of last year's work has landed on Facebook. But I am now going to try to bring this blog up to speed and maybe even spend a little time reworking the website. Between three hour naps and now Wednesday mornings open for working, (Bailey started going to an Academy on Wednesdays) I will have a little more time to promote the latest happenings at Sarah Holt Design & Photography, and a LOT has been happening!! We welcome the new year!

I have a few new products I would love to introduce to you. Since we are in the middle of the busiest time of the year for family portraits, I'd like to show you a few new products that you more edgier clients might be interested in...

I just received my first sample of one today! They were so fast with production too!

I'm so in LOVE!!!

The first one is a metal print. Modern. Edgy. Beautiful. Brushed aluminum Metal Prints show your images in an incomparable way. They start with metal, add a coat of opaque white ink to the surface, and then print your image on top. This process truly takes your photography to the highest level in unique presentations. LOVE IT! It gets better....

The next product I dare you buy. If you do, I will be so jealous of your coolness. I want one for my office so bad, but I have not narrowed down the perfect print just yet... so here are the images I pulled from the printers site.

Your image is split between 11.7" brushed aluminum tiles. Each Mural features silver snap rings, and brackets for easy assembly and wall mounting. Present your image as a contemporary work of art that will surely be the center of attention.

This next product, someone may or may not be getting one of these babies from us for Christmas. I can't say just yet;)

What a beautiful wedding at such a beautiful location. Brett & Amanda got married at Ashelynn Manor in Magnolia, TX. This place was so on top of things. They have the most polite wedding coordinators I have ever meet. Everything happened like clock work. If you want to book there, reserve early because they sometimes book up to four weddings in weekends. Crazy. And they are still nice to people? Seriously, it was a pleasure shooting there. Check them out!

Now on to the beautiful people. What's fun about this couple is, well, I have shot them before and have known them both forever. You may recognize mom and daughter. And if you grew up in MW, you might even recognize the groom. Brett went to school with us up until junior high, then moved to Houston. They reconnected on facebook, hehe. And here we are today. They are somewhere in the Maldives Islands soaking up the sun and I am at home sifting through a bajillion photos from their wedding. I love it! Sit back and enjoy. This is a long one!

Photo Dumping

Because time is precious, this post is mostly a photo dumping of the past 3 weeks. I have been taking photos as time allows, but mostly I have been staring at the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Such a miracle.

The community that we live in is amazing. They came together and organized a calender to bring us food. Every other night we had a new, hot, home cooked meal arrive at our door. Oh so yummy every time and oh so humbling how much effort was put into every meal. What a blessing to not have to worry about what we are going to eat for dinner. People we didn't even know yet have shown up. God has really surrounded us with loving people.

This folks, is an image of the two loves of my life! Thomas is such a sweet daddy. She is so at ease with him.

We had a very low key Easter this year. Bailey is still a little too young to hit the crowded room of people. But we did mange to find a few fields of blue to capture this years awesome display of wildflowers!

Almost as soon as we arrived home, I caught a cold, which Bailey caught from me. There is nothing more sad than seeing her struggle to breath at 1.5 weeks old. Thomas has it now and as I type this I feel another sore throat coming on. I can now see how new moms can become so protective of their little ones and not want anyone to touch or breath on them. It just doesn't seem fair to be so little and have to already deal with a sick cold. At this age there is nothing you can give them to help them fight it off. So we are just waiting for it to clear up. Please pray that we can knock this out and that this sweet baby doesn't have to battle another round of it.

Bailey Brynn is born!

Bailey joined us at 3:46 AM March 12, 2010 via emergency c-section. Mom and baby are doing great. Here are a few pictures from the point & shoot. Thomas' laptop can't process raw images, so we'll have to wait on the other pictures and videos for a while.

I guess when your waiter asks you, "So, Baby gets Mexican food now, huh?" with a big grin on his face, it means that our fun little secret is obvious to the world. Maybe it was given away by the fact that Thomas had been rubbing my tummy or maybe I am showing more than I thought. That's right, we decided to get our dogs a kid and expand our family. We are so excited. Today we found out it's a girl! Thoughts of colors and decor are running through my head and it has been super fun to see Thomas excited and watch him prepare in his own ways. Right now he is prepping the backyard for a fence that he will build himself and a staircase off the back porch, making a safe place for the dogs to spend more time outside. For those of you that I know will be asking, here is the first belly shot I am willing to share. I can't wait until February when the totally amazing Cristy Cross flies to town to shoot the maternity session!

A few weeks ago I second shot for the fabulous Brandi Price. The first daughter of our ex-boss and college professor, made a gorgeous bride. And the weather, oh man, was amazing as well. Check out those clouds before the wedding. We never saw a drop come from them, but I felt the cool breeze come in.

It was such an honor to be behind the scenes of this wedding. Emily and Kress, I wish you a happily ever after!

Fairy Tale

This shoot was a bit like a fairy tale. We rescued frogs, chased bubbles and sang about dragons all in the beautiful surroundings of Clark Gardens outside of Mineral Wells. This is another long time friend with a sweet growing family. I could not be more honored to capture this morning with them in the garden.

My favorite part was very few of these shots were set up. These sweet ladies interacted so tenderly together, I hope that shows through these images.

I think someone has had her photo taken before :) I did not ask her to pose, she is just that cute.

For those of you that pray, please lift this family up in your prayers today. My friend's mom has started another battle with cancer. 15 years ago she won that battle, but again the cancer has crept in. I tell you, I have never seen someone so positive & brave in the face of a fight.

Prints are fun, especially if they are for me! I really do get giddy when prints come in. I am slowly adding to my office collection! This one is the largest so far, 24x36 metallic print!

I have a busy week ahead, I have two out-of-town shoots Thursday and Friday and back by Friday night to meet up with some old Lubbock neighbor friends. Then a wedding Saturday night in Fredericksburg. Today I am cramming to get work done before I hit the road. I am hoping to bring some of that rain from north TX back with me. Man, don't we need it?! I am also praying for my sweet friend who is expecting twins. We want those little cutie-pies to stay safe inside mommy one more week! After that we can't wait to meet them!!!

Tunnel Kids

I have to admit, the power of facebook is amazing these days. Yeah, I said it.. I find old friends, or they find me and in a few days I'm taking pictures of their beautiful children I didn't know they had. This sweet little family is just precious. It is refreshing to watch two friends, that have been married 8 years, that are still in love and admire each other. They have been through so many life changing events since I last saw them, but Mom and Dad are the real deal, Jesus loving, happy baby raising couple. It was so good to catch up.

There is nothing more fun than two sisters expecting babies (3) about the same time. Last weekend I shot another double pregnancy session and I have known these girls since birth!

Fossil Rim

I remember going to Fossil Rim as a child with the Coopers. I think that was the same trip we went to Inks Lake and sat in our lawn chairs in the lake because was so hot! I could be wrong. This post is a little over due, but this is how I spent my Mother's Day weekend. I met some of the family at Glen Rose and we stayed a night at The Glen Hotel. I highly recommend the stay!

Hot Cakes!

These little babies are selling like hot cakes! They are 88 4x6 prints of your favorite images from your shoot. Sometimes it is hard to just pick a few, or maybe you want to see some images printed before you blow a few up to 30x40 canvas prints. They are printed on the same professional photo paper and same quality as your larger prints. I get a discount for printing 88 at the same size & so I pass the saving on to you. You can have a new image to look at every day. Everybody is doing...

2.5 Weeks Ago

Remember that garden from 2.5 weeks ago? I counted 32 tomatoes yesterday and then lost track of what I had already counted. We have peppers and eggplants blooming too. And the green onions have finally come back to life. I think we planted the broccoli, on the left, too late in the season, but there are eatables. Thank God for the rain and Thomas' care. We had sautéed spinach last night and we have eaten a few, to die for, strawberries already! Where's the chocolate!

Thank God for Little Girls

I have known Amanda my whole life. We played softball together growing up and we were roommates for 3 years in collage. I was her maid of honor and she was mine. She is very dear to me. So is this little girl. I know she brings so much joy to Amanda's life. You can see why.

I am glad I had the chance to spend a little time with them, I don't get to do that enough!

Reece LOVES her Uncle David. She just lights up and waves when he comes around the corner.

Yes, I am still processing through lots of fun photos from my trip to Mineral Wells. Hang in there. They are coming. I just had to share a fun package I received in the mail today. I have had the hardest time picking which images I want to hang in my office and stare at everyday. This one is a 22x24 and has a special place on my wall and in my heart. It is my first gallery wrap to order for myself and I LOVE how it turned out!

A Time to Brag

I just want to take a second to brag on what a genius my husband is. Check out this garden he built from scrap wood and gadgets from the hardware store. My granddad would be proud. I am proud of how well it all works. So far the deer haven't bothered it as far as we know. Can't wait until it is picking time. I hope everyone has a safe and blessed weekend. I have three shoots tomorrow in Mineral Wells, probably four. So keep a look out of three toddlers and a senior as you hunt for bunnies...

Devil's Food

Rarely do I bake a full batch of anything and not burn at least one. It has been a long time since I have made cupcakes with icing. I ate the first one so fast, I couldn't remember what it tasted like. So, I ate another... Usually I can pass up the baking aisle and not blink. It was time for a little sugar indulgence at our house. I didn't hear any complaints.

Mineral Wells Shoot Weekend

Hey all you Mineral Wellsians, I will be there Easter weekend for a couple of photo shoots. If you're interested in a shoot of your own, let me know. It is a good way to cut down on the travel fee... There are so many places in MW that are great for photo shoots. Clark Gardens would a good place for Easter photos don't you think?

A Portraits session is $200 That include my time at the shoot and post processing, up to 3 hours of shooting time, 1-5 people, an online viewing gallery available 2 weeks after the shoot (unless notified otherwise) and $75 print credit. $10 for each additional person. Session fee is due at the time of the session.

Home of Crazy

I have had more graphic design than photography work lately. I tend to forget to post design work, but here goes. Some of these are photos my mom took. Not all the signs were up the last time she visited, so I added plain ole design files to fill in the gaps. These large signs hang at an old gas station at Hwy 281/N Oak Ave & 6th Street in Mineral Wells. Six of them are placed in sets for two, one is an old postcard image and the other is full of info. We have an Information Center with the history of Mineral Wells and the famous Crazy Water, which I am sure you have often heard me talk about. So the next time you drive pass, don't, stop and read the signs. The Famous Water Pavilion is two blocks west of the Station, go check them out too!

I have wedding this weekend I am super excited about. I just received my first large prints from my new Mark II and I am falling in love with the camera all over again! My friend Brandi Price is coming in to shoot the wedding with us! I can't wait to see her work her magic with her new camera as well. So check back, will try to post image right after the big celebration goes down.

Good Golly Miss Molly Turned 2!

Thomas and I took a day trip to Fort Worth on Saturday for Molly's 2nd birthday party. We ate at one of the best BBQ places we have had in a long time, located in Glenn Rose. Somehow, we passed up the famous buttermilk pie and held out for yummy birthday cake.

My new camera also records video. I am still learning how to use that bad boy. By no means do I claim to be a videographer, I added this clip because my niece is pretty darn cute.

I just have to say, I had one beautiful, sassy bridal shoot on Friday. I can't wait to shoot their wedding! It's Official...

A few weeks ago, the new official portrait for President Barack Obama was released. It was taken by Pete Souza, the newly announced official White House photographer. It is the first time that an official presidential portrait was taken with a digital camera. That camera was the new Canon 5D Mark II. What does that have to do with you, you might ask? Well,.... Drum Roll, Please! My new Canon 5D Mark II officially arrived today!!! I am squealing right now. That means all my future 2009 clients will be sitting in front of the same camera as your Mr. President. Now, whether you like him or not, that is officially pretty cool, don't you think?!

Proof Book

If you are having trouble narrowing down which photos you would like enlargements of, or if you just like the traditional way of proof viewing your images, a 4x6 proof book is a good way to go. There is a thin white boarder around each image to ensure that your image is not cut off by the binding. The ID number is printed on the back of each photo and I do not place a logo across the image, detracting from the quality of the image. Another fun shoot I am in the middle of processing is this photogenic senior, Willie Mitchell. He was such a good sport with letting us experiment with light. Willie is a creative soul himself and had some great ideas up his sleeve. Here are just a "few" of my favorites from that night. Let me know what you think! Product Show & Tell

Now that Christmas has past, I have a few products to show off that were popular this season. The first one is a 10x30 print with 3 8x8. It will arrive to you with a Styrene back so the image will not curl up on you years down the road. This image can be printed on the following paper types: Lustre, gloss, metallic, pebble, linen, embassy... Though I do not carry frames at this time, I am willing to make a few suggestions on where you can find some!

The second project is the beginning of my journey to provide you with album choices. These Hardcover Press Printed Books are printed using only the highest quality digital presses, with real liquid ink. Press Printed Books are available in different sizes, 5x5, 5x7, 8x8, 8.5x11 and 10x10. We offer six cover material options all made with masonite including black, chocolate brown and tan fabric, black, dark brown and dark red leather. Foil stamping is available. Inside pages are printed on 110# semi-gloss hinged paper. The hinged paper allows open pages to lay flat as well as provides a thick upscale paper that can also be UV coated.

Family Times

We are packing up to do a Texas Tour for Thanksgiving. With all of the Big 12 football chaos & the sadness that still lingers from Tech's loss against the Sooners, family tension can be high sometimes, especially if you have a family of mixed collegiate loyalty. I think it has even rubbed off on Walker a bit. He is a pretty big Tech fan.

"Hey Walker, would you rather be a Boomer Sooner or be dead?"

In light of preparing to be in the presence of one of our most beloved Aggies, we have asked Walker if he wants to be an Aggie as well. As any good parents would, we have given Walker the choice of whatever college he wants to support. Pretty sure he doesn't want to be anything but a Red Raider! You so good Walker.

Sorry to say that our sweet little Winnie was not a very good participant in "dress-up" for the trick-or-treaters. She pretty much thought the attire was the treat, and instantly tried to eat whatever I put on her. Waylon and Walker were so good, and didn't seem to mind.

We are in an isolated part of the neighborhood and only had 3 little trick-or-treaters. I have never had such polite little visitors, I was so impressed! Even though I offered more, they each took only one piece of candy and said, "Thank you." WOW. I am use to the grab (as much as my little hand(s) can grab & more) and go'ers. I love our new neighborhood!

I am a sucker for old things that are a part of either one of our family's history, specially if I know a good story that goes with it. This is how I have this old phone. It was used by my mom's parents in their small town Hardware store, Outhouse Lumber & Supply. I grew up running around this store, as did my mom. This phone still has the phone number in the center of the dial that my grandmother typed. I set it in my office as decoration.

The phone guy came today to set up my land line in my office. As we are discussing what type of phone I need in my office, Thomas picks up the phone and there is a dial tone. The technician hooked up the "Super old phone" as Thomas explained, and it WORKS! Well, of course the first person I called from it was Mother. She was tickled, as were we, that it even works. And I don't need to buy a new phone!

Fall Birthdays

We had or fall birthdays this past weekend at our house. Which gave us a good goal to get all of the boxes unpacked. Very eventfully weekend. LOTS of food. I am still recovering from all the good food.

We ate at Oasis. I had not been there since they rebuilt. What a mammoth of a restaurant! Pretty sun set, good food.

Clap as the sun goes down. As to say, Good job God! It was beautiful. The horizon looked like it was on fire as the sun set over the lake.

Then back home to this yumm cake. Not a bit left! I don't think I have ever had a store bought cake for a birthday party my mom was in charge of... Are we spoiled or what!

This little cutie volunteered a "CHEESE" as I snapped this image before we ate. WHAT?!, she is only 21 months. She knew what to say before anyone else said cheese. Amazing how fast they learn. I think I have found my favorite little model!

Even though she will be here tomorrow night, she has been waiting to see a photo of my office. She took two days off to help me paint and venture to Ikea for furniture. We didn't get it all up before she left, so she has been anxious to see it put together. The paint is Light Silver Sage. It took me forever to pick a color I would be happy with. The sample swatch setting on a white piece of paper looks green. But on these walls, it is blue. I have grown to like it.

There is still a lot to do like hang things on the walls, a rug. I want to get two chairs to set by the window and a sideboard to hid all of my junk that is presently sitting in the living room... The curtain was donated by my sister. You might recognize it as the background in the previous photos of her family. I'll keep ya posted as it comes together.

Woodrow found a good crack climb on my new wall shelves.. I'd like to get outside and climb myself, just too much work to be done, Woodrow.

Rain

This was take at 10:30 last night. We had a little break from the rain. I love night shooting.

I stepped out on our back porch this morning and heard something I had not heard before. It rained hard all day yesterday and most of the night. It was not raining this morning, but it sounded like it was from the porch. With a little more investigation, I found this, a creek in my back yard! The previous own told us it was 5 feet deep one summer. We have a series of ponds dammed up that lead down to the lake. It has not rained like this since we have been in Austin. So excited that I went on a little nature walk this morning. We have part of the Green Belt trail in our backyard. Which would be good for trail running, if I ever decide to exercise again.

We also have a golf course in our neighborhood that is owned by Willie Nelson. You can't tell in this photo, but the flag there in the middle, is a Texas flag.

Traveling show

This past weekend was full of excitement. I came into town (MW/DFW) because a good old friend of mine was getting married in Dallas at the Aldredge House. Two gorgeous people and a beautiful wedding. My sister went with me. They had a photo booth set up that printed the images for you to take home, as well as, saved a digital file for the bride and groom. Of course we had fun with that. The last two times I have been with my sister, we have found ourselves in a photo booth... Humm. I think she will hate that I posted this one.

Yeah Shaun and Abby. I am really happy for you both!

The rest of my weekend was a little Crazy. I went to the Crazy Water Festival and the Crazy Water Pavilion before the wedding on Saturday. I drove to DFW and back twice. I got some good play time in with my niece and I had a little break down before I could get home. My driver side window fell inside the down. With a little duct tape (really), I made it home without any major problems..

GPS at night. This is kind of what my weekend was like.

I got stuck behind this thing on the way home. I tried getting around it. And I almost did, but the truck here in front of me stopped to get a good look at it before the light turned red. There I was again, at the end of the long train of cars trying to go around it. Set me back an hour.

I took off down some random road and came across this guy, out in the middle of no where, looking a bit like I felt at this point. I just wanted to get home.

All in all it was a great weekend. I got to see a friend I have not seen in a long time. I am hoping she will come see us in Austin sometime soon!

Coming out of the boxes..

We are still walking around boxes. It has been a while since I have even taken a photo of something worth posting. Boxes and more boxes. Arranging and rearranging. Paint decisions (Light Silver Sage from Restoration Hardware, "it looks blue on the wall") and new office furniture from Ikea. It has been fun. As soon as I go back to Ikea and get the right door fronts for my wall shelves, I will post an image or two of the new "cubical" progress, ha! This weekend I have a wedding to attend, a one year old photo shoot and the Crazy Water Festival (which you should attend if you are in the area). Hope you are doing well. Happy Thursday Night!

What an awesome way to start out in a new town. This is the Casey James band. Jacy McCann drums, Casey James singer and lead guitar, and Billy James bass. They came to town this weekend and they asked me to tag along! What a blast. These guys are so creative, talented, and full of life. I was honored to be their photographer. I can't wait for you to hear their tunes. You get a special sneak of my time with them before they appear anywhere else.

Thanks guys for including me this weekend. It was so good to see ya and catch up. You guys ROCK!

Just because I can't stand not to, you may get three post today... Here is Miss Molly's weekend. She shopped until she dropped, she saw goats and horses and chickens, and she played until the adults were worn out! She had quite the adventure.

This place is so beautiful. Memory Lane Event Center, close to where the guys recorded. A great place to have an outdoor wedding that accommodates many people.

Thomas and I celebrated our 5th anniversary today. My sweet parents drove 3.5 hours to deliver a very special gift. We have started a fun new tradition (I hope!) They brought us a small version of our wedding cake YUM!!! So we are sitting here enjoying the best wedding cake ever! It is an Ida Mae Wedding Cake from Jacksboro, Texas. (940) 567-3439 If you are in the market of needing a wedding cake, there is no better place to go. It doesn't matter where you live, these are the best wedding cakes in the world. I am a big fan of promoting creative people that are good at what they do. And this lady is GOOD. She doesn't have a website or even advertise for herself. She just prefers word of mouth. She has created wedding cakes for the Perot family and the year we got married, she was featured in the first D Wedding Magazine. My aunt and my sister both had Ida Mae cakes. I could go on forever, but I'd rather have another piece of cake! Thanks Mom and Dad!

Happy 5th year, Thomas. I am more in love with you today than I was the day we married, and I didn't think that could be possible.

So in the world of graphic design, presentation is everything. I'm working on the presentation of my packaging. I don't necessarily want every package to be the same, but they do need to be similar. I like making them by hand, for now. I'm practicing my carving skills, which brings back memories of junior high, I believe, when we learned how to carve a stamp in art class. I here is my first attempt to carve my logo to stamp onto what ever needs to be packaged. It is a little scruffy. But there will be more to come. The S actually comes out pretty well on paper, it is the tiny lines on the H that are little boogers to carve.

I'm star struck. haha. I behaved and waited until I was back in the car before I freaked out! My friend Chelsea came to visit today. On our way home from Panera Bread, my favorite, she says hey, that was Lance. There are always bike riders up and down these winding roads. I have never thought to myself, hey, this is where Lance Armstrong lives, maybe it's him. Of course I didn't have my camera on me but I found a great little point and shoot in the floor board. Yes, we turned around, I hung out the window and took a photo of Lance Armstrong. The first was not good enough so we pulled over down the road, I jumped out and took a photo of the flowers and then turned, smiled, caught a smile back from Lance, then took one last shot. YEAH! That was fun. I was good, I didn't even run after him or yell or anything. You should be proud.

He's still going strong! Lance was sporting black and yellow gear advertising his new Austin bike shop Mellow Johnny's.
